iPhone Used as Wireless Gamepad for iPad Game [Video]

Developer Dave from Magic Jungle Software demonstrates using his iPhone as a wireless controller for Chopper 2 which is running on the iPad and outputted to his TV.

Chopper 2 is the sequel to the first version of Chopper and is still in development. It will feature a completely re-written 3D game engine, all new enemies, weapons, graphics, and missions, while still retaining the classic side scrolling game-play.

The iPhone is connected via Bluetooth to act as a controller for the game and the iPad is outputting to the TV via the Apple component cable.

Chopper 2 is expected to be released in June.

Apple Purchase of Chip Maker Intrinsity is Confirmed

Apple has confirmed to the New York Times that it finalized a deal to acquire Intrinsity, a small chip company.

Many analysts believe Intrinsity helped make the A4 chip used in the Apple iPad but Apple won't acknowledge this.

“Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we do not comment on our purpose or plans,” said Steve Dowling, a spokesman at Apple.

Tom R. Halfhill, an analyst with Microprocessor Report, believes the acquisition price was $121 million.

The company’s web site is no longer accessible.

RIM Previews Upcoming Blackberry 6 OS

RIM offered the first official first look at BlackBerry 6 during the WES 2010 keynote.

The development team aimed to make the new OS:
● fresh, but familiar
● easy to use, but incredibly powerful
● fun, but approachable

Crackberry made the following observations from the preview...

Touchscreen friendly: The preview video makes it clear that BlackBerry 6 will be much more touchscreen friendly than what we have seen in the past from RIM, with new gestures, multitouch support and improved feedback for the user (kinetic scrolling, rubber banding). We've also heard that BlackBerry 6 will work well with non-touchscreen input as well and it looks like it should suit the optical trackpad.

Revamped UI and OS/Homescreen Experience: At first quick glance during the video BlackBerry 6 looks familiar, but then all of the new and improved features start to jump out at you... Search from Homescreen, a pull down for notifications (sweet!), pop-up contextual menus, etc.

Revamped Native Apps: It's clear that RIM has put a lot of effort into key native apps as well. The inbox and contacts and media apps are all getting updates, and they're looking good.

WebKit Browser/Rendering Engine: RIM's new WebKit rendering engine is going to really speed up the web browsing experience while keeping it efficient. The browser gets much-needed features like tabbed browsing.

You can take a look at the official preview video below. Blackberry 6 will launch in the next calendar quarter to compete with iPhone OS 4.

New Opera Browser for Mac is 10x Faster

The new Opera browser for Mac is now more than ten times faster, according to speed comparisons between Opera 10.52 and Opera 10.10.

The new version boasts an improved user interface, Cocoa integration, multi-touch trackpad gestures and Growl support. This, combined with the unprecedented speed from the new JavaScript engine, Carakan, and the new graphic library, Vega, provides a faster and smoother browsing experience. The new Opera also features the latest in Web standards, including leading SVG support and HTML 5 video.

Main reasons to try Opera for Mac:
● Top speed - Take advantage of the world's fastest browser optimized for Mac, now more than ten times faster than the previous version of Opera for Mac.
● Mac-ified UI – Opera’s new user interface for Mac is now more responsive, with a unified toolbar and design overhaul.
● Finger navigation – Multi-touch trackpad gestures make browsing much more efficient. Pinch to zoom or use two fingers to scroll and three fingers to navigate back and forth in your browser history, all from your trackpad.
● Turbo-charged browsing – When surfing with your Mac on slow, congested networks, for example at an airport or on a train, Opera Turbo comes to the rescue, ensuring the fastest page loading no matter the crowd. Tests show that Opera Turbo provides about 65% faster browsing on Edge and around 50% faster browsing speed on 3G networks.

“To all Mac users who value fast browsing, please meet Opera,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “Opera is a consistent performer on even the most congested networks, giving people the fastest browsing experience, coupled with a powerful feature set that is finely attuned to the needs of Mac users.”

Facebook Begins Transcoding Video to MP4, Bringing iPad Support

Facebook has begun transcoding uploaded videos to MP4 bringing video playback support for the iPad via its built in player.

According to ReadWriteWeb, this feature is still begin rolled out,

We went to one user's News Feed (belonging to our own Marshall Kirkpatrick, in fact) and discovered he had uploaded two video files last night using iCamcorder. On the iPad, the earlier video played, launching as a full-screen MP4. The other, when clicked, informed us that we needed Flash in order to view it.

Earlier reports believed that Facebook had launched an HTML5 player; however, that was not the case.
