Unofficial iMessage App Released for Android!

Daniel Zweigart has released an unofficial iMessage app for Android devices on the Google Play Store. The app lets Android users message iOS users via iMessage; however, there are some concerns about whether it's safe to use.

Hacker and developer Adam Bell notes that "it looks like that iMessage on Android hack is super sketch and is spoofing iMessage requests as a mac mini."

Developer Steven Troughton-Smith tweets:

iMessage for Android app has code to download APKs in the background? TOTALLY SAFE. Not rootkit-ing your phone or anything? :D

Link to this app at your own risk. I'd be quick to re-flash and format any device it touches. That's just me, though

@chpwn @SteveStreza @chronic @b3ll as an obfuscated APK w/ the ability to download apks or delta code patches, I'm not comfortable with it

Considering this, we strongly recommend that you don't use the app or at least wait until more details are known.

Winocm: The Jailbreak 'Needs Work But Its Almost There'

Hacker winocm, who previously demonstrated a jailbreak of the iPhone 5 on iOS 6.1.4, has tweeted with a minor status update.

The status of the jailbreak is pretty much: it needs work but its almost there. (For a very small subset of devices.)

At this point in time its unclear which devices winocm is planning to support; however, it's likely that the iPhone 5 will be one of them. In early September, he tweeted photos of Cydia running on an iOS 6.1.4 iPhone 5. Previously, he also indicated the successful jailbreak of the iPhone 4 so that's another device that could be supported.

Please note, this is not a jailbreak for iOS 7.

iPhone 5s Outsells iPhone 5c By 3.4x in the U.S

Localytics has released a new report indicating that the iPhone 5s has outsold the iPhone 5c by a factor of 3.4x thus far.

In less than 3 days, the iPhone 5s and 5c combined now represent about 1.36% of the total numbers of all iPhones activated in the U.S. market across the top 4 carriers AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint and T-Mobile. From the data we are seeing, 1.05% of all iPhones in the United States are now iPhone 5s and just 0.31% are iPhone 5c. That means that the iPhone 5s outshines the 5c by a factor of 3.4x, a clear indicator that the early adopters are favoring the high-end 5s compared to 5c. This makes sense since those who feel the need to buy a new device the very weekend it launches are most likely the power users who want the highest-end phone experience.

Notably, iPhone 5s and and iPhone 5c activations on AT&T represent 0.67% of all activated iPhones, versus 0.51% for Verizon, 0.12% for Sprint and 0.07% for T-Mobile.

Check out the charts below.

Apple Announces 9 Million Launch Weekend iPhone Sales, 200 Million iOS 7 Updates

Apple today announced it has sold a record-breaking nine million new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c models, just three days after the launch of the new iPhones on September 20.

In addition, more than 200 million iOS devices are now running the completely redesigned iOS 7, making it the fastest software upgrade in history.

Both iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c are available in the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK. Demand for iPhone 5s has exceeded the initial supply, and many online orders are scheduled to be shipped in the coming weeks.

“This is our best iPhone launch yet―more than nine million new iPhones sold―a new record for first weekend sales,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we’ve sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone.”
